Mustadam is registered as a non-profit organisation with the Ministry of Commerce. A non-profit is a recently created designation enabling organisations to run operations just like a normal business but where 60% of profits must be reinvested into social and sustainable activities. This means most of our profits will be used to provide its solution to communities, organise charitable activities, train desginers and refurbishers, and more.
Mustadam covers the cost of a number of important services to ensure that we provide the best value to both buyers and sellers. We have a team fully dedicated to selecting good quality furniture, we cover collection of furniture, cleaning, and storage costs of furniture. Overall, there are a lot of costs! We therefore need to charge a commission to ensure that we can cover our operational costs, attract a great team, and make some profit to give back to the communities.
Charities rely on largely on donations. Furniture is large, bulky, heavy, often in bad condition. A charity would require significant funding to have any major impact with furniture. Instead we wanted to build an engine that could power an entire operation. We work closely with existing charities to make sure they collect unsold furniture.
